For Practices and Doctors
The ACC needs you. Every cardiovascular professional in the U.S. must get personally involved in the fight for patient access.
To fight the cuts, be sure you:
- Arm yourself with knowledge. Read the high-level overview of the Rule, view slides (PDF) from the ACC's recent all-member call discussing the Medicare Payment Rule, and listen to a recording of the presentation. The call is in MP3 format, so you can download it and listen where ever you like.
- Know the Rule's impact on YOU. Assess the impact of the cuts using ACC's practice expense calculator. Then send us your results. Your calculations will give Congress hard evidence of the cuts' effects on cardiology practices. Other tools to help you understand the impact of the rule and to protect your practice are available under Practice Management and in the Practice Survival Toolkit.
- Share your stories and your patient stories. We need these to put the unintended consequences of these cuts in human terms.
- Tell your community about how the cuts will affect your patients' access to care. Write a letter to the editor or an opinion piece to your local paper. Assistance is available from ACC's media relations team.
- Be vocal about your opposition to the cuts. Be vocal about your opposition to the cuts. Tell your elected officials about the devastating effects that the cuts will have on patient access to crucial cardiovascular services, or arrange an in-person meeting with your lawmakers at home. Contact Molly Nichelson to arrange a meeting in your home state.
- Increase the impact of your political donation. Arrange some face-time with your lawmakers at one of their fundraisers or donate to the ACC Political Action Committee. We all know money talks — make sure your lawmakers are listening.
It's an uphill battle — but together we can make an impact! For questions or concerns, please contact advocate@acc.org.
