Every second 37 people die from heart disease in the United States. Its our nation's number one killer — claiming more lives each year than cancer, accidents and diabetes combined.
Momentum is shifting, however. In the last 10 years alone, the cardiovascular community has made tremendous progress in treating patients with heart disease. Heart-related deaths and the severity of heart-related illness have fallen by an impressive 27 percent.
More Americans than ever are winning their battles against this terrible disease. And that's why we, the patients, need to take action to protect our access to quality cardiovascular care.
Recently, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services finalized a decision to cut the payment rates for private cardiologists and the vital services they provide. The result — less access to our doctors, less access to imaging tools needed for sound diagnosis, higher copayments, and extra trips to the hospital.
We cannot let these devastating changes become reality. Join me in the fight to safeguard patients' access to care!
